Our Winemaker
Nancy Steel has succeeded Scott Harvey as the primary winemaker for Cloud 9, effective with the wines of the 2006 vintage. (Scott continues to be a consultant and shareholder in the winery, however.)
Nancy comes to Cloud 9 with impressive credentials and a long record of producing innovative and award-winning wines. After earning her degree at U.C. Davis, she began her practical training at Stag's Leap Wine Cellars in the Napa Valley. Her subsequent experience has taken her to the Barossa Valley in Australia, to Lambert Bridge Winery in Sonoma and back to Napa with Clos du Val Winery.
She has been a head winemaker for over 20 years, first with noted Zinfandel producer Mazzocco Winery in the Dry Creek Valley of Sonoma and most recently as founding winemaker at Perry Creek Winery in El Dorado County in the Sierra Foothills (where she developed "Zin Man"). Nancy's experience in three of California's most prestigious growing regions - along with her international experience - allows her to bring a diversified background to bear on the continuing evolution of Cloud 9's portfolio of Ultra-premium wines.
Look for Nancy in the tasting rooms on special event weekends.
